Viewing Pocket PC Programs Using Acrobat Reader®

Acrobat Reader®

The Palm/Pocket PC version of Acrobat Reader® is required to read our handheld programs.

If the Acrobat Reader® is installed on your handheld unit, the Acrobat Reader® icon will appear on your unit and you can proceed directly to running the Setup program CD received from Looseleaf Law Publications.

If the Acrobat Reader® is not installed on your handheld unit, you can install the Acrobat Reader® from the software essentials CD that came with your unit or you can download the appropriate Reader from this web page. Before downloading from this web page, you will need your Palm/Pocket PC Version and/or Processor Type.

To Determine Pocket PC Version and/or Processor Type:

  • Turn on Pocket PC
  • Tap Start Menu icon (upper left-hand part of screen)
  • Select Settings
  • Select System Tab
  • Tap About icon
  • Make a note of Microsoft Pocket PC Version & Processor Type

To Determine Palm Operating System:

  • Turn on Palm Unit
  • Tap Application or Home icon (in the upper-left corner of the Graffiti writing area)
  • Tap the Menu icon (below the Application icon)
  • On the Application menu, Tap Info - The dialog box appears
  • Tap Version - The Palm OS Version will appear at top of dialog box
  • Make a note of the Palm OS Version

Installing Acrobat Reader® on Palm/Pocket PC

Alternative Method of Installing Pocket PC Programs:

  • Insert Installation CD received from Looseleaf Law in CD Drive
  • Double click My Computer on desktop
  • Double Click CD Drive (usually D:)
  • Double click Pocket PC folder
  • Select Menu item "Edit|Select All"
  • Select Menu item "Edit|Copy"
  • Place Pocket PC in cradle and run Microsoft ActiveSync
  • When the Microsoft ActiveSync window appears, click the "Explore" button
  • When the Mobile Device window appears, click the "Paste" button (you will see the files being copied to your unit)

NOTE: DO NOT remove unit from cradle until after Microsoft ActiveSync has finished synchronizing (removing unit from cradle will damage files and make them unreadable). If you experience problems opening a program, reinstall the program. Answer "Yes" when prompted to reinstall/upgrade. Without removing Pocket PC from cradle, click "OK" to reinstall and "Yes to All" to replace damaged files.

Removing Files From Pocket PC:

  • Place Pocket PC in cradle and run Microsoft ActiveSync
  • When the Microsoft ActiveSync window appears, select Menu item "Tools|Add/Remove Programs"
  • When the Add/Remove Programs window appears, uncheck program to be removed and click "Remove" button
    OR
  • When the Microsoft ActiveSync window appears, click the "Explore" button
  • Place mouse arrow on file to remove and "Right" click mouse
  • When dialog windows appears select "Delete"

Alternative Method of Installing Palm Programs:

  • Insert Installation CD received from Looseleaf Law in CD Drive
  • Double click My Computer on desktop
  • Double Click CD Drive (usually D:)
  • Double click Palm folder
  • Select Menu item "Edit|Select All"
  • Right click mouse and when dialog window appears, select "Open"
  • When "Install Tool" dialog window opens, click "Done"
  • Run HotSync

NOTE: If you are unable to perform a HotSync, you will need to reinstall the Palm Desktop software that came with your unit. (you may have lost the connection between your Desktop PC and the Palm unit)

Removing Files From Palm Unit:

  • Remove Palm unit from cradle
  • Turn unit on
  • Tap Acrobat Reader® icon
  • Tap square box next to file you wish to delete (a check mark will appear in the box)
  • Tap Delete

Viewing Palm Programs Using Acrobat Reader®

  • Remove Unit from cradle
  • Turn Palm unit on
  • Tap Acrobat Reader icon
  • Tap file name to view program
  • Tap Up & Down Pointers to view TOC
  • Tap + or - Sign to Expand or Collapse TOC
  • Tap Application or Home icon (in the upper-left corner of the Graffiti writing area) to exit

Viewing Pocket PC Programs Using Acrobat Reader®

  • Remove Unit from cradle
  • Turn on Pocket PC
  • Tap Start Menu icon (upper-left hand part of screen)
  • Tap Programs
  • Tap Acrobat Reader icon
  • Tap file name
  • Tap Up & Down Pointers to view TOC
  • Tap + or - Sign to Expand or Collapse TOC
  • Tap Up & Down Pointers to close TOC
  • Tap Up Pointer and select exit to exit program
  • Tap X (upper-right part of screen) to return to Start Menu
