Windupdate Trojan

Error Message: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The System file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

What's happening is your Autoexec.nt file keeps getting deleted by a file named WINDUPDATE.EXE. Note the spelling it's not WINUPDATE.EXE. Windupdate.exe deletes the Autoexec.nt file after a reboot.

WindUpdate is part of the wind updates ad network. It is installed silently on a user's computer and gives out free advertising to websites that offer the Windupdate ActiveX control. The machines infected with WindUpdates will also receive additional adware applications, and be subjected to popup ads, and other advertising.

    • (Be very careful when editing the registry, critical errors can occur. If you are not comfortable with editing the registry, have someone else do it for you or search the web for an adware/spyware program that is capable of removing this Trojan.)
